Qualifications:

Tay founded Tay Chambers in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and has been the Managing Partner of the firm since inception.

Tay commenced his early legal practice in one of the largest real estate & conveyancing law firms in Johor Bahru. Tay thereafter joined one of the largest commercial law firms in Malaysia, where he was mainly involved in a broad range of civil, commercial and banking litigation works which include contractual and commercial disputes, debt recovery, banking and insolvency matters, winding-up proceedings and defamation suits. Geared with his extensive conveyancing & litigation background, his portfolio has gradually expanded to the other practice areas.

At Tay Chambers, his portfolio focuses on corporate, commercial and business advisory works as well as commercial and banking litigation. Tay regularly advises clients across the Asia Pacific region on a variety of corporate and commercial matters, including mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, joint ventures and other commercial transactions.

His noteworthy clients include a number of publicly listed companies in Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and the People’s Republic of China as well as one of the largest banking & financial institutions in East Asia.

Tay also has in-depth experience in contractual and commercial disputes, debt recovery, banking and insolvency matters, and winding-up proceedings.

His other practice areas are defamation, land disputes, divorce and family law, and wills & probate.

Professional Background

Tay is a practising Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. He holds a degree in the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Leeds and is a postgraduate from City University of London, UK.

He was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law to the Bar of England & Wales and is a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London.

Apart from the legal professional qualifications, Tay is a holder of Executive Certificate in Islamic Finance awarded by the Global University of Islamic Finance (INCEIF). Tay is also a registered Company Secretary and holds a valid practising certificate.
